Abstract

This revised and extended edition of a well-established monograph in function theory contains a study on various function classes on the disc, a number of new results and new or easy proofs of old but interesting theorems (for example, the Fefferman-Stein theorem on subharmonic behavior or the theorem on conjugate functions in Bergman spaces) and a full discussion on g-functions.

Abstract

Over 100 years ago Harald Bohr identified a deep problem about the convergence of Dirichlet series, and introduced an ingenious idea relating Dirichlet series and holomorphic functions in high dimensions. Elaborating on this work, almost twnety years later Bohnenblust and Hille solved the problem posed by Bohr. In recent years there has been a substantial revival of interest in the research area opened up by these early contributions. This involves the intertwining of the classical work with modern functional analysis, harmonic analysis, infinite dimensional holomorphy and probability theory as well as analytic number theory. New challenging research problems have crystallized and been solved in recent decades. The goal of this book is to describe in detail some of the key elements of this new research area to a wide audience. The approach is based on three pillars: Dirichlet series, infinite dimensional holomorphy and harmonic analysis.

Abstract

This volume presents cutting edge research from the frontiers of functional equations and analytic inequalities active fields. It covers the subject of functional equations in a broad sense, including but not limited to the following topics: Hyperstability of a linear functional equation on restricted domains Hyers–Ulam’s stability results to a three point boundary value problem of nonlinear fractional order differential equations Topological degree theory and Ulam’s stability analysis of a boundary value problem of fractional differential equations General Solution and Hyers-Ulam Stability of Duo Trigintic Functional Equation in Multi-Banach Spaces Stabilities of Functional Equations via Fixed Point Technique Measure zero stability problem for the Drygas functional equation with complex involution Fourier Transforms and Ulam Stabilities of Linear Differential Equations Hyers–Ulam stability of a discrete diamond–alpha derivative equation Approximate solutions of an interesting new mixed type additive-quadratic-quartic functional equation. The diverse selection of inequalities covered includes Opial, Hilbert-Pachpatte, Ostrowski, comparison of means, Poincare, Sobolev, Landau, Polya-Ostrowski, Hardy, Hermite-Hadamard, Levinson, and complex Korovkin type. The inequalities are also in the environments of Fractional Calculus and Conformable Fractional Calculus. Applications from this book's results can be found in many areas of pure and applied mathematics, especially in ordinary and partial differential equations and fractional differential equations. As such, this volume is suitable for researchers, graduate students and related seminars, and all science and engineering libraries. The exhibited thirty six chapters are self-contained and can be read independently and interesting advanced seminars can be given out of this book. .

Abstract

This book focuses on the theory of the Gibbs semigroups, which originated in the 1970s and was motivated by the study of strongly continuous operator semigroups with values in the trace-class ideal. The book offers an up-to-date, exhaustive overview of the advances achieved in this theory after half a century of development. It begins with a tutorial introduction to the necessary background material, before presenting the Gibbs semigroups and then providing detailed and systematic information on the Trotter-Kato product formulae in the trace-norm topology. In addition to reviewing the state-of-art concerning the Trotter-Kato product formulae, the book extends the scope of exposition from the trace-class ideal to other ideals. Here, special attention is paid to results on semigroups in symmetrically normed ideals and in the Dixmier ideal. By examining the progress made in Gibbs semigroup theory and in extensions of the Trotter-Kato product formulae to symmetrically normed and Dixmier ideals, the book shares timely and valuable insights for readers interested in pursuing these subjects further. As such, it will appeal to researchers, undergraduate and graduate students in mathematics and mathematical physics.

Abstract

This volume is devoted to Joseph A. (Joe) Ball’s contributions to operator theory and its applications and in celebration of his seventieth birthday. Joe Ball’s career spans over four and a half decades, starting with his work on model theory and related topics for non-contractions and operators on multiply connected domains. Later on, more applied operator theory themes appeared in his work, involving factorization and interpolation for operator-valued functions, with extensive applications in system and control theory. He has worked on nonlinear control, time-varying systems and, more recently, on multidimensional systems and noncommutative H∞-theory on the unit ball and polydisk, and more general domains, and these are only the main themes in his vast oeuvre. Fourteen research papers constitute the core of this volume, written by mathematicians who have collaborated with Joe or have been influenced by his vast mathematical work. A curriculum vitae, a publications list and a list of Joe Ball’s PhD students are included in this volume, as well as personal reminiscences by colleagues and friends. Contributions by Yu. M. Arlinskii, S. Hassi, M. Augat, J. W. Helton, I. Klep, S. McCullough, S. Balasubramanian, U. Wijesooriya, N. Cohen, Q. Fang, S. Gorai, J. Sarkar, G. J. Groenewald, S. ter Horst, J. Jaftha, A. C. M. Abstract

This book presents a new theory for evolution operators and a new method for defining fractional powers of vector operators. This new approach allows to define new classes of fractional diffusion and evolution problems. These innovative methods and techniques, based on the concept of S-spectrum, can inspire researchers from various areas of operator theory and PDEs to explore new research directions in their fields. This monograph is the natural continuation of the book: Spectral Theory on the S-Spectrum for Quaternionic Operators by Fabrizio Colombo, Jonathan Gantner, and David P. Kimsey (Operator Theory: Advances and Applications, Vol. 270).
